2017 Ford Fusion ST is the new sedan from American carmaker. The current model of the Fusion has been launched back in 2012 and because of that, it is starting to lose some ground against some of its newer competitors. In order to keep it at the top of its class, Ford will release a facelift for their best selling sedan as well as they will introduce on the market an all new model which should make a lot of people happy.
This model is the 2017 Ford Fusion ST which even though it has not been announced by Ford officially, it has been confirmed as one of the nest 12 models to come from Ford’s performance division by an insider.
The Engine range
As soon as it was confirmed, many people started to talk about what engines the 2017 Ford Fusion ST could get. There are two real possible choices at this point in time and the most probable is that the Fusion will get the 2.3 liter EcoBoost inline 4 from the Mustang. This will be tuned in order to make 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque which is enough, especially considering this is an ST model.
The other possible engine would be a more exotic choice, a 2.7 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which could provide just as much power as the 2.3 liter inline 4 but more torque with an expected output of more than 350 lb-ft of torque.
Both of them would be similar in terms of performance with an estimated 0 to 60 MPH time of around 5 seconds and a top speed of 155 MPH.
Also, the car has been confirmed to come with a single gearbox choice, a 6 speed automatic which will power all four wheels as standard. The system is likely going to be very similar to that of the Focus RS. Ford did not let the running gear unchanged either and the Fusion ST will be using similar brakes to those on the Focus ST with bigger rotors in the front and four piston calipers.
Design – Inside and Outside look
In terms of design, the car will come with a few front end which is going to be found on all the future Fusion models. On top of that, it is likely going to get a more aggressive front bumper, a new rear bumper which will feature a four-pipe exhaust system as well as a small diffuser. On the trunk it will get a small spoiler, similar to that of the old Mondeo ST220. The wheels on the car will be 19 inches as standard and it should come with high performance tires from the factory.
The interior of the 2017 Ford Fusion ST on the other hand is likely going to mirror that of the base model with only minor changes made to it. The car will likely feature the now usual Recaro front seats and rear bench as well as a sportier steering wheel and a slightly more vivid instrument cluster. As standard it should be similarly equipped to a top of the range model of the Fusion with leather upholstery, satellite navigation and Ford’s newest Sync 3 infotainment system.
2017 Ford Fusion ST Price & Release date
The model has also been spied with light camouflage on it and it does promise to be a very good car, especially considering the fact that Ford currently makes some of the best driving small cars on the market. The price is confirmed at NAIAS and it is expected to start at right around $30,000 which is also where the Focus RS is.
However, the Fusion will not be as fast or as powerful as the RS but it will certainly be the fastest car in its class by quite a big margin. The release date will coincide with the release of the actual facelift of the car, so expect it on the market some time in first half of 2016.
The biggest competitor is Chrysler 200S by Mopar.
