While the smaller F-150 has been completely redesigned at the end of 2014, the heavy duty version of it remained pretty much unchanged until the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty will be released in the mid or late 2016.
The new truck is expected to follow the same trend as the smaller F-150 which means that it will very likely get the all aluminum body of that truck with a heavy duty steel chassis. This should allow Ford to drop the weight of their heavy duty model by around 500 pounds or more which could mean that the fuel consumption and the load ratings will improve which is great news for all of the future customers.
2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Redesign
The exterior of the upcoming 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty will change quite a bit over that of the current model. The spy shots of the prototype which has been tested since the late 2014 show an all new front end which will actually borrow some of the design elements of the F-150. The front end will be similar with wrap-around headlights, a more imposing grille and even a new bumper design. The cabin will be identical to that of the F-150 in order to save costs on manufacturing and maintaining the truck due to the more expensive aluminum while the bed could be made out of steel in order to put some weight on the rear wheels.
Inside the cabin the improvements will continue so the upcoming Super Duty trucks will feature a new dashboard design, an all new instrument panel with clearer dials and even a standard LCD screen which will display information such as service intervals or engine temperature. The materials will also be better and while the standard upholstery will remain the usual heavy duty vinyl of the current model, the dashboard and the door covers will use much softer materials.
The Engine range
Under the hood of the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty we are likely to find a couple of new engines as well as a couple of old ones. The base F-250 truck will finally get rid of the old 6,2 liter V8, which is not that efficient, and it will get a newer 5 liter naturally aspirated V8 that will offer just as much power at 385 horsepower and a bit less torque at just 390 lb-ft of it. However, Ford is also going to offer the already well known 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 which may be boosted to around 400 horsepower and up to 500 lb-ft of torque, a sizable improvement over the old 6.2 liter V8, all while using less fuel.
The 6.7 liter PowerStroke V8 which has been around for so long will luckily continue unchanged. It will continue to offer 440 horsepower and 860 lb-ft of torque which still is the most amount of power in any modern truck.

The heavier duty F-550 and 650 trucks will continue to be offered with the 6.8 liter naturally aspirated V10 petrol engine which is good for 362 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The smaller F-250 and 350 will likely get Ford’s new 10 speed automatic gearbox which first debuted on the Raptor earlier this year.
2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Price
At this point in time Ford has not released much on the new trucks but it is safe to assume that when they will be launched, the prices will stay similar to the current ones. In fact, some even suggest that some trucks could cost less thanks to the introduction of smaller engines.
The base price could start as low as $30,000 while the heavy duty versions or the luxury editions of the F-250 and 350 will likely hit $80,000 which would make them the most expensive trucks on the market to date.
The biggest competitors are: 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD, 2015 GMC Sierra HD and 2015 Ram Heavy Duty .
