2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty

The all new F-250 and the other Super Duty trucks have been showcased back in the autumn of 2015 and they are expected to go on sale in the next couple of months. The one everyone is waiting is the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty because is a step above the smaller F-150 when it comes to towing capabilities or even off-road prowess, especially with the upgrades Ford currently did. The upcoming model of the F-250 is an all new truck and it shares very little with the older model.

It has an all new beefier chassis than before which has been made out of high strength steel only. The suspension components have also been made out of steel and this time around, the axles are beefier even on the base model.

What’s new for 2017 model year?

In order to mitigate the added weight of the beefier components, the body will now be made out of military-grade aluminum, meaning that despite all that added weight, the truck will weigh 350 pounds less than the ongoing model. This means it will be more efficient and it will be able to carry and tow quite a bit more than before.

Under the Hood & Specs

The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty will come with two different engines. The base model and the one meant for fleets are going to rock the same 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 as the previous generation. This is quite capable at 385 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque and it can match its competitors quite well, especially in terms of reliability where Ford wins with ease.

The option will come in the form of the 6.7 liter Powerstroke V8 diesel which will offer 440 horsepower and 860 lb-ft of torque, enough to tow with ease more than 15,000 pounds! Both of these will make use of the same 6 speed automatic as before and both of them will be offered with rear or all wheel drive, in which case the towing capacity will slightly drop.

New EcoBoost engine

In the near future, there are also rumors that the new F-250 will be the first one of the Super Duty trucks to receive an all new EcoBoost engine and the most likely candidate for this would be the one that will power the next generation Raptor. This will be a 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 mated to a 10 speed automatic gearbox which will offer up to 450 horsepower and more than 500 lb-ft of torque while using as much fuel as the diesel version.

Redesign – Interior & Exterior

The exterior of the new truck has also been revised greatly over the ongoing model. It now looks a lot more imposing and also better from pretty much every angle. The front end has a large grille with two thick horizontal lines which is surrounded by the C-shaped LED daytime running lights and the Xenon headlamps. On top of that, the truck received better aerodynamic features such as a larger air-dam, a new tailgate as well as slight changes on the sides.

Modern Interior

Inside the cabin, the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offering just as much space as the smaller F-150 and this is because the two trucks share their cabin in order to alleviate some of the costs of the all aluminum body. This doesn’t mean that it is not comfortable though and it fact it offers a much better interior, both in terms of quality and equipment, than the truck it is replacing.

2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty Price

The only drawback is that despite Ford already allows people to order to truck, they will only start delivering them closer to the end of the year. The price is thankfully just as good as before meaning that you will be able to get a diesel version of the F-250 for under $50,000 which is a very good price considering how capable it is.

Competitors: 2015 GMC Sierra HD, Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ram Heavy Duty.
