2016 Shelby Baja 700 Raptor

Shelby is probably the best known Ford tuner in the World and their cars managed to outrun some very expensive European super-cars back in the day and even more recently. Their latest creation is the 2016 Shelby Baja 700 Raptor which has nothing to do with a sports car. Instead, it is based on the now discontinued Raptor, the fastest production truck so far.

This means that Shelby is not really selling the car but instead they are selling an upgrade package which takes an ordinary Raptor or one of their older Shelby Raptor 575 models and turns them into the 700 model.

Changes and Improvements

Let’s start the preview of the 2016 Shelby Baja 700 Raptor with the truck’s chassis and running gear. As you would expect, the chassis has been left untouched from the base model. However, both the front and rear differentials have been upgraded in order to handle the extra power, the brakes are now slightly bigger than before and as standard the new Raptor comes with larger 18 inch rims wrapped in much wider all terrain tires.

People will also be able to tell Shelby that they want road tires which will up the price by a small margin but it will give people tires that are able to withstand with ease speeds of up to 140 MPH which is insane on a 5,000 pounds truck.

The Engine range & Specs

Under the hood of the Baja 700 Raptor we can find the same 6.2 liter V8 engine as in the Raptor which rocks the same internals as the naturally aspirated version which is quite impressive considering it now makes over 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, basically making the same amount of power as the Hellcat cars. This amount of power has been achieved with the help of a massive Whipple-supercharger, new fuel injectors as well as larger throttle bodies. On top of that, it comes with an all new Borla exhaust system with dedicated heads as well as more permissive air-filters.

This should allow the massive truck to get to 60 MPH in around 5 seconds or less and it will easily hit more than 120 MPH which is sadly limited by the 6 speed automatic gearbox Ford fitted it with. The good part is that the extra power can be had on both the rear or all wheel drive model which means it has the potential to become a very fast dune-runner truck.

Design – Inside and Outside look

The exterior of the truck has been left mostly untouched so the 2016 Shelby Baja 700 Raptor now comes with slightly larger wheels, it has a new front grille with the Shelby badge on it while the usual Raptor stickers are now gone in the favor of some unique ones provided by Shelby. An option will now allow the customers to change the color and the model of the car, meaning it will now appear as a Shelby in the title instead of remaining a Ford.

Also, standard features will include LED flood-lights and off-road steel bumpers. The interior will also receive unique upholstery with the Shelby writings on it as well as a new steering wheel and an upgraded audio system with two dedicated subwoofers.

The total price for this conversion is $45,000 which is a massive amount of money for any tuning package. However, Shelby will only offer 50 of these special trucks and all 50 of them are going to be documented in the official Shelby registers, meaning that over the years their value is bound to increase.

Also as an extra, all trucks receive Shelby’s signature on some of their panels but this is going to differ from one truck to another and it is going to be documented by them.
