2016 Lincoln MKS is the first second generation model of this Ford brand. New renderings of this vehicle finally arrived, with the design created by Max Wolff, who also worked at Cadillac and Holden. This model is part of the Ford’s plan of making Lincoln become one of the most competitive luxury brands.
This is very though class with Lexus, Infiniti and Cadillac being the top dogs. Ford also plans to export Lincoln vehicles to China, since in the US they are only the 8th best selling brand when it comes to luxury market, which is really bad considering they were best selling luxury manufacturer during the nineties.
Design – Interior and Exterior
New generation model comes with numerous design updates, including installment of much more traditional “real American” lines that are dded to the rear shoulder and side windows. This 70’s influence makes this vehicle more similar to the other popular Lincoln vehicle, MKC crossover. New model also comes with increased amount of chrome in the overall design, especially in the grille area. It didn’t took much influence from the futuristic MKZ sedan vehicle, which looks more like a crossover than a real production version, luxury sedan.
It shares platform with Ford Taurus, which is the good old Volvo S80 original platform with some influences from Ford Explorer and Ford Flex in the overall construction. This is definitely not the modern light weight platform new generation vehicle deserves, but for something like that we will need to wait for the next mid-generation update.
Interior styling of 2016 Lincoln MKS comes with the standard Black Label luxurious design. Since we are talking about a luxury vehicle, it will probably come with some fine leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and Sync 3 infotainment system, that proved to be very easy and functional. We can also expect three zone climate control, large trunk space, and enough room in both seat rows. Other than that, here still hasn’t been any official information about this vehicle’s interior.
Under the Hood
This model will come with a new engine, that is will be named Nano and we’re talking about 2,9 liter EcoBoost V6 engine, which will be able to produce around 300 horsepower. Higher trim levels will come with bigger 3,5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 365 horsepower, same as the engine placed in Ford Taurus SHO. Both engines will be paired with six speed automatic transmission and there are rumors that in later model years this vehicle will receive a new transmission, that’s being developed at the moment by ford Motors and GM, we are talking about a super modern nine speed automatic transmission system.
2016 Lincoln MKS Price
2016 Lincoln MKS will start its sales in the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016. Maybe Chinese version comes a little bit earlier, and the price will increase for a couple of thousand dollars from $41,320 which is the price for the current model. If the predictions true, this edition should be presented at New York Auto Show 2015.
Main rivals of this luxury sedan are Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS and Lexus ES. First generation of this model wasn’t selling well comparing to other luxury vehicles, but Ford has high hopes for the new generation MKS.
