Ford Galaxy, which is a large MPV and slots above the C-Max isn’t available in the US market. Euro multi purpose vehicle is very similar to the S-Max, but is still taller and slightly longer. Curent third generation which lasts for a long time, since 2006, nears its end. 2016 Ford Galaxy will most likely be all-new vehicle which should grow in size for a little bit too. Built upon a CD4 platform, new Galaxy will share some of the Fusion/Mondeo’s underpinnings in more than just exterior styling.
Under the Hood
Ford Fusion or Mondeo which is its European counterpart will heavily influence the new MPV and Galaxy should acquire sedan’s powertrains as its own. There’s no doubt that Galaxy will offer both petrol and diesel engines, there’s just a question of which ones will it choose. Most likely options are 1.5L and 2.0L petrol, together with a new 2.0L diesel option. 1.5L EcoBoost I-4 could deliver 160 horsepower, while 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 should put up around 180 horses. On the other hand, 2.0L TDCi I-4 engine will yield 161 horsepower. 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will be carried over and only front-wheel drive option will be offered.
Styling – Interior and Exterior
As far as exterior design goes, besides getting bigger, 2016 Ford Galaxy will also get freshened up. Also influenced by the new lineup of Ford’s cars, Galaxy will get the trapezoidal stripe grille up front and should get the lower nose. Headlights will be laid-back and also swept-back windshield, will become bigger. Rear end will also get some new features, especially in Mondeo-like tail-lights, while the upright tailgate should remain similar.
7-seater’s interior won’t be radically changed in terms of material options and design as well. However, new angular flat-top dashboard might lose its sporty feel. Soft plastics will remain dominant throughout the cabin, while seats will be furbished either with cloth or leather upholstery. Touch screen and navigation aren’t standard and you’ll have to pay around $2,000 to get them both. Rear seat DVD entertainment system is also an option and features couple of small screens at the back of front-seat’s headrests. Cargo space is abundant, especially when rear seats are folded down. Thanks to the high driver position, and big windshield and tailgate window, outward visibility is good on both sides. Comfort is also held in high regard as Galaxy offers lots of adjustment for both the driver’s seat and the steering wheel.
Safety and MPG
Among the standard safety features, Galaxy includes an airbag system, anti-lock brakes, and stability and cruise control, while most of the advanced electronic features are available as part of the optional packages. This way, you can get a rearview camera, blind-spot monitors with power fold mirrors and adaptive cruise control among others. There are also features like electric park brake, tire pressure monitors, and lane departure warning with forward alert as a part of driver assistance pack.
Fuel economy ratings are solid for a big people mover and a choice between petrol and diesel powertrains is quite pleasing. Smallest EcoBoost engine is rated at 34 mpg combined, while 2.0L turbo returns 28 mpg combined ratings. Of course, these are Euro cycle figures and US ratings would have been lower. Diesel engine can be rated as high as 40 mpg combined, but yet again, these are European numbers.
2016 Ford Galaxy Price
Prices stand in the region between $40,000 and $50,000, but as we know, overseas vehicles are much more expensive than the ones in the US.
2016 Ford Galaxy will be a nicely redesigned modern MPV with looks of one high-quality sedan. Fine exterior design and interior refinement will both be complemented by some other perks Galaxy has to offer, especially by great deal of fuel-efficient powertrain options.
