The Edge was one of the most expected cars from Ford for more than a few years and their latest model, the 2016 Ford Edge just surfaced a few months back as a tough looking crossover ready to take on any roads the country has to offer it. However, things are as simple as they usually look.
Unlike the older model, the new model has a new platform as well as different engines over the initial car. These are not only more fuel efficient but thanks to the lighter chassis and better weight distribution, the Edge should be a better driver’s car all around.

On the interior, the 2
016 Ford Edge will get a much better interior than before. The quality is going to be better as well as the equipment level. From what it looks like, the car will borrow a few styling elements as well as a few interior layout options from the Fusion which is not that bad considering how well the Fusion does in the interior department.
Standard features will include premium cloth upholstery, electric windows and seats, dual zone automatic climate control, a Sony audio system, a 7 inch infotainment system as well as rear adjustable seats. The more premium models on the other hand will further get satellite navigation, leather upholstery, an even better audio system with a slightly bigger screen for the infotainment system.
Exterior – description
Its exterior on the other hand will be completely new and it will take the new Ford design language which debuted at first on the Fusion. The front of the car will get a big imposing grille with two slim headlights similar to what you would find in the F150. The fog lights on the other hand are now following the contour of the intakes with a strip of LED for a very nice look. The lower air intake is quite small in comparison to some other cars and it also includes a splitter to improve the car’s handling at lower speeds.
Under the Hood
Engine wise, the 2016 Ford Edge will get three different engines. The base car will have a 2 liter EcoBoost which is good for up to 245 horsepower and most likely over 270 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a new transmission, the AWD 2 liter model will easily tow as much as 3500 pounds. Further up the range there will be an older 3.5 liter V6 but this time with less powerful than that of the previous version.
This will provide 265 horsepower which is quite bad considering it has less torque than the base engine. Ford said they’re introducing it thanks to the smoothness it provides in long journeys. The top of the range model will get a new 2.7 liter V6 with over 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. This should provide the best fuel economy of the V6 engines and the best performance of the three.
The car is expected to hit 60 MPH in less than 6 seconds and have a maximum top speed limited to 130 MPH.
Manual & Automatic Transmission
Front wheel drive is going to be standard on the base car but all wheel drive will also be available. Ford is also going to use their new 6 speed automatic gearbox which should provide quite an experience behind the wheel thanks to the smoothness and responsiveness the gearbox is able to provide. A manual hasn’t been officially announced but it might just come at a later date.
2016 Ford Edge Price and Release date
As far is it looks, the new Edge is most likely to come into showrooms by the end of 2015. The base price for the car is just $28,000 which is actually 2,000 dollars cheaper than the cheapest model in its class. This allows Ford to move up with the higher end spec model in order to give the customer the best possible experience.
Ford prepares to launch a four models: Titanium, Sport, SE and SEL. The most expensive will be 4-Door AWD Sport, and it costs around $40,900. On the other hand, the cheapest is the 4-Door FWD SE, 2.0L and msrp is $28,700.
The biggest compatitors are: 2017 Honda CRV & Nissan Murano.
